Grove Collective is pleased to present the upcoming fourteen-artist Open Call exhibition, featuring a selection of artists who applied to the gallery’s public open call invitation, on view both at Grove Collective’s Battersea location and online in virtual reality through the Grove Collective website. This is the first time that Grove Collective has worked with any of these artists.
At the foundation of Grove Collective’s exhibitional practice is an acknowledgement of curatorial limitations inherent to working as a small team. Curating from specific contexts – geographical, financial, professional – it is impossible to know of all of the exciting and ambitious work being made, even locally in London. With this in mind, the gallery has sought to open up its space to submissions from artists who have understood their work and practices to be aligned with the gallery’s vision.
Receiving hundreds of applications and thunderous support from communities at home and abroad, Grove Collective’s Open Call exhibition brings together a group of artists varied in their themes, practices, and locations in order to highlight the wide range in both the gallery’s curatorial interests and in the kinds of art being produced across the world by ambitious practitioners. In turn, the gallery hopes to use the exhibition as a means of creating longstanding relationships with the participating artists, having been introduced to practices previously unknown.
