Bhasha Chakrabarti & Matt Smoak


Bhasha Chakrabarti (b. 1991, Honolulu, HI) is a 2022 MFA graduate from Painting and Printmaking in the Yale School of Art. The artist has also exhibited in solo and group shows at M+B (Los Angeles), Experimenter (Kolkata), Jeffrey Deitch Gallery (New York), Museum of Art and Photography (Bangalore), Lyles & King (New York), and Gallery Gertrude (San Francisco, CA). Chakrabarti was a semi-finalist in the Smithsonian's 2022 Outwin-Boochever Portrait Competition and was awarded a Fountainhead Residency in 2020. Her works have been written about in The New York TimesHyperallergic, ArtsyJuxtapoz, and Arte Fuse. Bhasha Chakrabarti currently lives and works in New Haven, CT. 


Matt Smoak is a painter and bricoleur, raised in Tokyo, Japan and Washington, DC. He makes paintings, collages, and performance pieces referencing queer histories, constructions of identity, and the phenomena of reflections. His work has been shown in solo shows in Europe and the U.S., and he is a former research fellow at the Beinecke Rare Book Library and the Yale Center for Collaborative Art and Media. He is a former resident of Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture, and received his MFA in Painting/Printmaking from Yale University School of Art.
